March 26, 2008: So you want to be a "genocide scholar"?

I know - if you're like me you'd rather be "Top Chef." But just suppose, arguendo, you'd want to be a "genocide scholar." Who would be your guru, your role model in this day and age? Eli Weisel perhaps... or Simon Wiesenthal? Not in the Minnesota State University System. So who is it? Answer here.

[Shouldn't there be a class action suit around this? Taxpayers are paying for this crap.-ed. I'm no lawyer, but the guys at the link are.]

Hey, at least he's out of Boulder.

And we wonder why jobs are going overseas...and staying there. (http://tinyurl.com/2vru32)

If our educational system is not only producing but endorsing this kind of charlatan, how much room can be left over for teaching something useful?

Annika: "Sven, haf yew notished der skewl system lately?"

Sven: "Nu, Annika, der ox iss ill und i haf bin bissy mit der medicines."

Shouldn't he be busy advising the Obama campaign?

If there is a Film School on that campus I recommend that one of its students rent Errol Morris' "Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter, Jr." and then follow Chief Fat Jowls around -- a good old fashioned cinematic fisking is in order here.

Ughh, I wanted to verify the spelling of 'Leuchter' and discovered that Morris just made a movie about the "atrocities" committed at - where else? - Abu Ghraib. Sigh....what a gutless choice.

Increasingly, our universities are not scholarly organizations at all, but rather *sales* organizations, with the primary mission of propagating a particular point of view.

The closest analogy to them in the commercial sales field is those resort sales deals, where people go to get a free vacation and are subjected to a couple of days of sales harangues encouraging them to buy a swampfront condo, or whatever.

The average university professor of course is not a great salesman, and indeed would probably starve as a commissioned salesperson, but the closed environment, over 4 to 8 years, is probably effective for the same reasons as the resort sales approach.

While we pay for charlatans like Ward Churchill to basically spew hate, we now discover genocidal maniac Saddam Hussein paid for some of our representatives to visit Iraq.

Lem, "Name That Party!"

(well, really no need to.)
