I was at my grandmother's house with my parents. My mother had been glued to the TV since Kennedy's assasination. They are walking the man out and then we see Ruby step forward and he is almost on top of Oswald. He shoots him. My mother says "My God, he shot that man". And so he did. People jump on Ruby, Oswald goes down. The look on his face of surprise and pain is unforgettable.
Four old school journalists (myself included) have written a book about what it was like to cover the JFK assassination and the shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald. I happened to be one of several who filmed the Ruby/Oswald shooting. Read about our book at http://dallas1963.typepad.com/
Hope this is not too commercial. If so, rest assured we've lost more money spreading the word about the book than we've been paid.
We think our work will be important for historians and journalists. Many thanks.
I remember sitting in our kitchen, our 52lb "portable" TV on a roll-around stand. I was buttering a bagel when the Oswald shooting occurred. Ever the cynic, my brother said "now, that was convenient...".
