Roger L. Simon: More Hollywood Gossip (Geffen Division)

It's always amusing to read entertainment industry figures talking about lying. A Maureen Dowd column this morning has one of the richest and most powerful of all, David Geffen, slinging the following mud (or is it a laugh line): "Everybody in politics lies, but they [the Clintons] do it with such ease, it's troubling."

Whatever you think of the Clintons, that line is a masterpiece of projection from a man who made billions off other people's music. (How many lies did that take?) Nevertheless, Geffen draws blood in his attack on Hillary. The Obama-Clinton battle should be something to watch.

I have been saying since Obama entered this race, that it is going to be fun to watch the run up. I don't know why I sit here and hope that he actually gets the nod from the Dems. I guess my evil side is showing.

TV is going to be fun to watch and to that end I have installed an aerodynamically tested seat belt to my barco lounger.

Yes, Roger, I'm sure Dave Geffen has told more than a few himself, but unlike entertainment industry moguls, the Clintons are both lawyers and are, presumably, bound to live up to a certain code of conduct not unlike the codes of conduct that apply to lawyers practicing up here in the Great White North.

As for pot-kettle-black, this item does have the ring of an editorial cartoon published back when a Canadian news media mogul you may have heard of -- Conrad Black -- married a certain columnist named Barbara Amiel, of a couple of visigoths discussing the nuptials in disbelieve, crying that Black and Amiel are too right wing, even for them.

Oh yes, David Geffen--he hasn't just told a fgew lies, his entire career is built on them.

In 1964 he landed a job in the mail room at the William Morris Agency. In order to be considered for the position he had to lie about his college background. He told personnel at William Morris that he had graduated from UCLA. When he discovered that the agency planned to contact UCLA to corroborate his story, the resourceful Geffen kept watch in the mailroom for four months, until he was able to retrieve the college's reply. He steamed the letter open, took it to a printer, had the letterhead forged, and created his own academic credentials. Geffen told a New York Times reporter: "It was either give William Morris what they wanted or give up my dreams.... I just don't believe in taking no for an answer."

When the Clinton-Obama wars begin, I will likely feel the way I did when Iraq and Iran squared off, e.g. too bad they can't both lose. Hey, I suppose the nomination could go to someone else. Since I can't imagine supporting the Breck Girl, it doesn't any Democratic candidate has the right stuff. I was hoping I could vote for a Scoop Jackson Dem, but that species seems to be extinct. Hey, if Rudy can survive the primaries, he's got my vote.

And people wonders why movie attendence is down. With this kind of stuff who needs the movies.

Roger: I'm concerned that you (and other commenters) may be in trouble for violating what I is believe is a federal law that requires the use of at least one exclamation point immediately following the word "Hillary".

Of course we'll never know, but the Clintons must have really screwed Geffen bad for him to turn on them publicly this way. "Troubles" him to stick it to them back? I'll bet!

In over six years, she's done nothing for New York. Obama doesn't have a record to run on either. Nor does Edwards.

I would consider Bill Richardson. I'd have to weigh Lieberman against Guliani very carefully, were he to run as a Democrat or an Independent.

To be honest, I'm underwhelmed by all the front runners. Are there no Washingtons or Lincolns or Reagans anymore?
