December 25, 2006: Happy Christmas to all readers of the site...

... from a Jewish agnostic who has learned to respect Christians more than ever in the last few years.

Above is the Freestone Inn, Mazama WA where we are spending a few days, cross country skiing or nursing bruises and strains from same. It's a spectacular place with (this year) a huge amount of snow. Also, there are no cell phone communications, a Zen lesson at Christmastime for this "connection freak." But there's plenty to eat, of course, and a bottle of Leonetti merlot to be enjoyed with the inn's Christmas dinner.

What a lovely looking place to spend Christmas. Have a Merry one, Roger.

Beautiful.

I love the Freestone Inn. Enjoy your vacation; watch the strains and bruises. Us older folk need to take some care of ourselves. A good merlot sounds just right for that.

Thanks Roger, you and yours have a merry Christmas yourself.

Same to you & yours, Roger--and everybody--best wishes to all.

Have a happy, Roger - looks like a nice place.

At the moment, our Christmas enjoyment is sitting at a crowded airport gate using the free wi-fi.

Cheers

John

And just WHAT was the Christmas dinner at this paradise? C'mon, Roger, don't leave out the yummy details? Venison? Elk? (I promise I won't tell PETA)

From one lapsed Christian to a Jewish agnostic, a cheerful thank you for the gracious wish. We have always wanted the same things. Among them,

Peace on Earth, good will toward men.

God bless. Have a wonderful holiday.

OK, I'm not a food police type, just use fresh eggs and WASH them before use. Yup, this uses raw eggs, oh horrors!

This serves a bunch, and is served cold. Take a BIG punch bowl, put in a quart of really good vanilla icecream, pour eggnog over icecream.

ingredients:
3 qt. cream
2 cups sugar
18 eggs separated
1 750-ml. bottle rum
1 750-ml. bottle bourbon
1 cup brandy

Mixing instructions:
Combine the Rum, Bourbon and egg yolks; stir well. Combine the cream and sugar; then blend into the liquor mix. Beat the egg whites until stiff and gently fold them in. Garnish with nutmeg.

For Brother Ledeen,

No elk, sorry. But prime rib, duckling and pork loins - it's a buffet. Eggnog creme brule for dessert.

You're killing me here!

It's "global" warming here in Chicago. No white Christmas 2006.

Let's shut down all that industry. Then if it snows, we can eat the snow.
:-\

That's a hoot!
I am an Irish Catholic Atheist who has a much greater appreciation of things Jewish, especially the need for support of the state of Israel.

James E., my mother is a Griffin and your recipe is reminiscent of my world renown Newfoundland Moose Milk.I must try yours but here is a little trick, pour in a bottle of beer (very carefully) just before serving.

Oh, no, Roger. Cross-country? Too much like work. Give me downhill any day. I'm another lapsed Christian, but I appreciate the sentiment. Happy holidays to you, sir.
